It is important here to just note how good the special effects are, just look at that wave, all thanks to Industrial Light and Magic.

This is the giant wave scene from the movie. The force of the impact of the Beiderman comet created a massive tsunami or tidal wave, way out in the Pacific ocean. The wave generated from the impact of Beiderman travelled across the Pacific ocean and towards land. The comet hit the sea and displaced a large volume of sea water that was to form to the huge wave.

The giant wave still far out at sea was around 100m high and travelling faster than the speed of sound, thats faster than 340m/s. This collossal wave was now hurtling inland and was expected to wash inland quite a distance, everything within 600 miles of the coast would be wiped out by the wave. The wave approaches an oil rig and shatters it as it sweeps on by at great speed. The conjested road leading out of the state is now full of people running away as a huge wall of water appears over the horizon.

This picture here is of MSNBC news reporter Jenny Lerner with her father Jason. They had not got on as her father had left her mother for a yonger woman. Realising she was going to die as she would not be in the underground bunker she went to make up with her father and found him at her childhood home on the beach.

They make up and tell each other they love one another and just stand there holding each other, waiting for the wave to come. What better place to die than where all her childhood memories were, a vey heart testing scene. Then the wave strikes and the two are killed in the relativley tiny wash of water in front of the wave.

The first target for the wave to hit would be the state capital, New York. The first to go was the statue of liberty that just exploded as the wave hit it due to the speed and mass of the wave. Once the wave got into shallow waters of the harbours, it reached a height of over 3500m, much taller than any skyscraper in the city, as you can see above in the picture, the huge wave engulfs the skyscrapers like a toytown. Buildings collapse and hundreds of thousands die.
